Philippines’ First Lady explores traditional flower market in Hanoi



The market offers a wide selection of popular flowers for the Tet holiday, the biggest celebration in Vietnam. Some of the flowers available include peach flowers, kumquats, dahlias, violets, gladioluses, and narcissuses.


In the photo, Pham Thi Thanh Tam (in bright pink long dress), spouse of Vietnamese president Vo Van Thuong, introduces the First Lady of the Philippines to the significance of peach blossoms during the Tet holiday in Vietnam. Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and his spouse are on a State visit to Vietnam at the invitation of President Vo Van Thuong.


Peach blossoms are believed to bring good luck, happiness, and prosperity in the new year.


First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos is delighted to learn about Vietnamese peach blossoms and receives a small branch of peach blossom from the spouse of the Vietnamese President.


The two First Ladies take a stroll along Hang Ma street, which offers a variety of Tet items for home decorations.


The street is beautifully decorated with festive items, especially during the Tet holiday.


Both First Ladies are introduced to the history of Hang Trong folk paintings, a traditional genre of Vietnamese woodcut paintings originating from Hanoi.


They then enjoy sipping tea while listening to stories about traditional Vietnamese houses.

Official suggests application for recognition of Ho Chi Minh City as world book capital

Thang made the proposal during a conference held by the Authority of Publication, Printing, and Distribution under the Ministry of Information and Communications in Ho Chi Minh City on Friday, hailing the city as an ‘exemplary model’ for the development of a reading culture nationwide. The title of WBC has been held each year since 2001 by a town or city committed to acting to create a culture of reading.  It can provide an important impetus to experiment and innovate in the ways that literacy and reading are promoted, as well as to invest in key infrastructure, not least libraries.
